PAWTUCKET - Bay View's Rebecca Curran (pictured), the defending state champion, and North Kingstown's Hannah Zangari, the top two Division I seeded players respectively, reached the title round of the Interscholastic League girls state singles tennis tournament with quarterfinal and semifinal round victories Sunday.
Curran and Zangari will play for the state title Sunday (Oct. 24) at noon at Slater Park.
Both Curran and Zangari earned their title round berths with straight sets victories in both the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds. Curran posted a 6-0, 6-3 quarterfinal victory over Mt. St. Charles' Meghan Lydon and a 6-2, 6-1 triumph over Smithfield's Jenna LaBarre in the semifinals. Zangari defeated East Greenwich freshman Sandra Drljaca, 6-1, 6-0 in the quarterfinals and La Salle's Amanda Pitocco, 6-3, 6-3 in the semifinals.
The Mount St. Charles team of Aimee Barone-Tara Martin and the Bay View duo of Andrea Clark-Brianna Pelletier earned the right to play for the state doubles title with semifinal round victories Sunday.
The doubles final also will be played Sunday at noon at Slater.
