Thom Spann, Kevin Jackson and John Copeland were inducted into the R.I. Track Coaches Hall of Fame at the boys' indoor track and field awards banquet, held last Sunday at the Copley Plaza in Warwick. All three have coached at either the youth, high school or collegiate level for the past three decades. Copeland has coached the track and cross country programs at the University of Rhode Island since 1982, producing numerous New England champions, along with a number of NCAA qualifiers and All-Americans. In his ninth season as track and cross country coach at Rhode Island College, Jackson also enjoyed successful coaching stints at both Pilgrim and Hope High Schools. Spann has been coaching runners at Hope since the 1970s and along with Jackson has been directing the extremely successful Providence Cobras youth track and field program since then, as well. |
