WARWICK - Woonsocket clinched one of the four Division II-A football playoff berths as the VIlla Novans rolled to a 40-0 victory over Warwick Vets Friday night.

Because of a problem with the lights at Classical's Al Morro Athletic Complex, Thursday's Division II semifinal field hockey game between Wheeler and Smithfield has been postponed to Friday at 5 p.m. at Classical.
Classical and Pilgrim were able to play the earlier semifinal game Thursday while there was still daylight. Classical prevailed, 2-1, and advances to the Division II final, Sunday at 3 p.m. at Cranston Stadium.
Today's rainy weather has prompted changes in the schedule and venues for some field hockey playoff games and a girls soccer game.

Rockwell's three-set victory in the third singles match gave Bay View the point it needed for a 4-3 victory over defending champion Mount St. Charles in the title match of the Division I girls tennis team tournament Sunday. It was the first Division I state tennis title for Bay View.
The Interscholastic League state field hockey champions will be crowned Sunday at Cranston Stadium with the Division I title game scheduled for 1 p.m., followed by the Division II game at 3 p.m. Semifinal action in both tournaments will be held this week at Cranston Stadium with Division I games on Wednesday at 5 and 7 p.m. and Division II games on Thursday at the same times.
PAWTUCKET - Providence Country Day captured three of the four singles matches and the No. 2 doubles as the Knights won the Interscholastic Division IV team title with a 4-1 victory over Coventry on Sunday at Slater Park.

The MetLife Soccer Classic, featuring the Rhode Island Interscholastic League's seven boys and girls state titles, is right around the corner.
Semifinal games of the tournament, sponsored for the 29th straight year by MetLife, will be held Nov. 2-4 at various locations. All championship finals are scheduled for Nov. 7-8 at Rhode Island College.

With rain forcing the postponement of the Division II and III Rhode Island Interscholastic League Girls Tennis State Championships Saturday, all four title matches will now be played Sunday.

WEST WARWICK - Aaron Booth scored three touchdowns leading the Mt. Hope football team to a 25-6 victory over previously undefeated West Warwick in a Division II-A game Saturday.
The victory pulled the Huskies, now 4-1 in II-A play, into a first-place tie that could involve four teams by the end of the week-end.

NORTH SMITHFIELD -- School officials have received only 10 percent of the money they were anticipating from the unpopular athletic management fee introduced in August.
According to a report to the School Committee Tuesday night, $3,840 had been collected from the fall sports teams. The goal was $37,350.
"The returns are not what we had hoped for," schools superintendent Stephen Lindberg said Wednesday.
La Salle Academy athletes are taking precautions to avoid the flu-like symptoms that are keeping some students there and elsewhere at home.
Rob Riebe, assistant athletics administrator, said Tuesday that sickness has had "very little impact" on the school's sports program.
"We have a couple of kids out. Nothing significant," Riebe said.

Chariho senior Nick Dubee broke the school's season goal-scoring record Monday with his second goal of the game in the Chargers' 4-1 victory over North Kingstown.
Dubee has 26 goals with two games remaining in the regular season, at home against Toll Gate on Wednesday and at home against South Kingstown on Friday. Steve Bodach and Ron Gebler held the previous record of 25 goals in a season.

Because of the rain some teams could not finish their regular season schedules until Monday. So now the quarterfinal round of the Division II and III playoffs, originally scheduled to be played on Tuesday, will be played on Wednesday. Quarterfinal round matches in Division I and IV now will be played on Thursday.
Two teams can't be much closer than Cranston West and Mount St. Charles in Division II North girls volleyball. They are tied for first place with 12-1 records, each team has won 37 games, and they split their season series.

NORTH SMITHFIELD -- The athletic management fee intended to help support junior varsity and middle school sports is most likely not generating the revenue that school officials had desired.
