Scituate High School sophomore Katelyn Bouyssou has placed fifth in the 48 kg class at judo's Cadet World Championships for 15- to 16-year-olds, held in Budapest, Hungary. Bouyssou competed as an independent wrestler last school year and advanced to the 103-pound semifinals Rhode Island's state meet. The Cadet Worlds, held for the first time this year, attracted 529 athletes from 70 nations, according to a news release from USA Judo. Bouyssou received a bye in the first round before defeating Bernadett Keliger of Hungary, who had won a bronze medal at the European Cadet Championships. She lost to Hiromi Endo (the eventual gold-medal winner) of Japan in the quarterfinal round, then rebounded to defeat Lien Moors of Belgium to advance to the medal round, where she lost to Julia Rosso of France.
