North Kingstown posts 6-4 baseball victory

WEST WARWICK - North Kingstown broke open a close game with four runs in the bottom of the sixth then held off a Cranston West seventh-inning comeback attempt as the Skippers posted a 6-4 victory over the Falcons in the first game of an opening round double header in the Division I state baseball title series Saturday at McCarthy Field.

Dave D'Errico drove home three runs with a bases-loaded double highlighting North Kingstown's four-run sixth inning uprising. The Skippers had come into the inning holding a slim 2-1 lead.

Cranston West came back with three runs in the top of the seventh, however, and had the tying runs on base when North Kingstown relief pitcher Dave Boelter retired three straight hitters on two strikeouts and an infielder grounder.

North Kingstown will play the winner of Saturday's second game between Hendricken and South Kingstown Sunday at 1 p.m. Cranston West will play the loser of the Hendricken-South Kingstown game at 4 p.m.
