Saints win Division III tennis title

PAWTUCKET - St. Raphael didn't waste any time capturing the Interscholastic League Division III boys state team tennis title Monday morning as the Saints won four of the first five matches decided for a 4-1 victory over Portsmouth in the title match at Slater Park.

Singles victories by Pat Gannon and Ryan Bizier and doubles triumphs by the teams of Dave Montalbano-Eric Beaudoin and Tim Ferreira-Brian Gill gave the Saints the points they needed for the title.

Under Interscholastic League rules once St. Raphael earned the four points it needed for the title, the other three matches that were still in progress, two singles and a double match, were stopped .
