Reetz heading to South Carolina

Ric Reetz, the veteran Rhode Island high school football coach who spent the past four years as head coach at Cumberland High, is leaving Rhode Island to coach in South Carolina.

The Charleston Post & Courier reported Sunday that Reetz has been named the new head football coach at Porter-Gaud, a private school in Charleston.

Reetz's 2008 Cumberland team finished in a tie for fourth in Division II-B during the regular season with a 3-5 record, but then defeated Division II-A top seed West Warwick in the opening round of the Division II state tournament. The Clippers lost to Tolman in the semifinal round of the tournament

Reetz was named the Providence Gridiron Club's 2008 Division II-B Coach of the Year. Prior to coaching at Cumberland,

Porter-Gaud plays in the South Carolina Independent Schools Association, a League of 20 private, independent schools throughout North Carolina. The Porter-Gaud football team was 4-7 last fall.
