Lotti earns CAA recognition

Kayleigh Lotti, the former All-State pitcher from South Attleboro and St. Raphael Academy, is the Colonial Athletic Association pitcher of the week for the period ending Sunday.

The Hofstra senior pitched 21.2 scoreless innings and defeated Drexel three times last weekend.

She threw a three-hitter in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday, pitched 5.2 innings on one-hit, 10-strikeout relief in the second game and threw a six-hiiter Sunday.

She is the pitcher of the week for the 14th time in her career and was the rookie of the week three times as a freshman.

Lotti improved to 18-6 this season with an ERA of 1.26. She is 82-27 in her career with 958 strikeouts. Only three active pitchers in Division I have 1,000 career Ks: Danielle Lawrie of Washington, Missy Penna of Stanford and Brandice Balschmiter of UMass.

Hofstra (26-16, 14-3) will play at Long Island University Tuesday night and conclude the regular season with a three-game series at home against Delaware Friday and Saturday. Hofstra needs only one victory in the Delaware series to clinch to top seed in the CAA Tournament.
