Frieder earns top tennis seed

Wheeler's Jesse Frieder assured himself of the top seed for the Interscholastic League boys singles state tennis tournament Tuesday afternoon as he registered his second victory of the season over two-time defending state champion Kyle Burke of South Kingstown.

Frieder, who lost to Burke in the title match two years ago, but didn't play high school tennis last season, posted a 6-4, 7-6(7-2) victory in Tuesday's match. Earlier in the season he recorded a come-back, three-set victory over Burke.

The state tournament begins this week-end with three divisional (I, II, III & IV) qualifying tournaments. The 32-player championship tournament is scheduled for May 8-10.
