Four R.I. high schoolers to receive scholarships from Patriots

Four Rhode Islanders will be among the 36 high school students who will receive nearly $100,000 in scholarships from the New England Patriots Charitable Foundation and Fidelity Investments.

Robert and Myra Kraft, along with Pro Football Hall of Famer Andre Tippett and representatives from Fidelity Investments, will honor the recipients, Tuesday night at the Gillette Stadium Fidelity Investments Clubhouse.

According to a press release from the Patriots, "The students participated in the New England Patriots/Fidelity Investments "Write On" Scholarship contest, in which they were encouraged to submit their own creative stories on the Patriots games throughout the season. Each month, one student won $5,000, two students won $2,500 and six students won $1,000 in college scholarship funds.

"After the season, winners with qualifying scores were asked to submit an additional essay, personal statement and teacher recommendation for consideration for the grand prize," the release continued. "The $15,000 grand prize, $10,000 runner-up prize, $5,000 honorable mention prize and $2,500 recognition prize will be announced and awarded on Tuesday night."

In addition to the 4 Rhode Islanders, 2 from Connecticut, 21 from Massachusetts, 5 from Maine and 4 from New Hampshire will be receiving scholarships.

Those from Rhode Island to be honored: Brendan O'Brien, of East Greenwich; Alexandra Smith and Alyssa Stenson, both of Warwick, and Alexander Breault, of West Warwick.
