Former Mount softball teammates Ryan, Ashley help Caldwell earn No. 4 ranking

Former Mount St. Charles softball teammates Kelly Ryan and Rebecca Ashley are teammates once again at Caldwell College in New Jersey. The freshmen helped the Cougars win 9 of their 11 games last week, which pushed their record to 29-11-2 and helped them earn the No. 4 spot in the NCAA Division II East Region rankings.

A two-time All-Stater and one of the best players ever to come out of Mount St. Charles, Ryan is hitting .329 with 2 doubles, 1 triple and 10 RBI and is 11-for-12 in stolen base attempts. Primarily a pitcher at Mount, she has moved to the outfield and boasts a .978 fielding percentage.

Ashley has started nine games in the outfield for Caldwell and is hitting .138. She recently helped the Cougars complete a sweep of American International College, scoring the game-tying run with two outs in the seventh inning of the nightcap, which her team went on to win, 8-5, in nine innings.

In the first game of that doubleheader, which Caldwell won, 2-1, Ryan drove in the game-winner with a sacrifice fly to right in the top of the 12th.
