Top-three finishes for three teams at N.E. Winter Spirit Championships
Two weeks ago, they established themselves as the top cheerleading teams in the state, and over the weekend they proved they are also among the best in the region.
Three competition cheerleading squads from Rhode Island placed among the top three in their respective divisions at Saturday's fourth Annual New England Interscholastic Winter Spirit Championships at the University of New Hampshire's Whittemore Center in Durham, N.H. It marked the first time that more than one team from the Ocean State placed at the event.
Mount St. Charles - which successfully defended its Small Schools title and also took the overall crown at the RIILTeam Competition Cheerleading Championships - finished second in the Small Division at the New England competition with 164 points.

Two-time Co-Ed State Champion La Salle racked up 184.5 points en route to a runner-up finish behind Attleboro High School in that division at the regionals, which featured 13 teams.
And Portsmouth, the two-time Medium Schools Division champion and overall state runner-up, placed third in the Medium Division with 183 points.

Dear Carolyn,
Very good article, thanks for the coverage.
Will this be in the Providence Journal too?

Hi Linda,
Thanks for your note.
I hope to mention the Rhode Island teams' performance at the New England's in an upcoming high school notes column.
