Prout and MT. Hope are even after two periods in Division III title game
PROVIDENCE -- Mt. Hope's Kyle Gasior and Prout's Hunter Dudzik are currently putting on a show in Game Two of the Division III boys ice hockey state championship best-of-three series at Schneider Arena.
Gasior has a hat trick and Dudzik has two goals and an assist. The two teams are tied at 3-3 entering the final period.
Prout won the first game 5-3.
Prout came out firing, peppering Mt. Hope goalie Patrick Gaudreau (24 saves so far) with six shots in the opening four minutes of the game.
The third one got through.
Dudzik flipped in a rebound off of a Paul DiGiovanni shot to give the Crusaders the early 1-0 lead 2 minutes and 53 seconds after the opening faceoff.
Gasior answered for Mt. Hope less than two minutes later when he stole the puck in enemy territory and scored on a wrist shot from the left circle.
The two teams played pretty evenly after that until Dudzik struck again, this time scoring on a rebound from the left post after Gaudreau made a nice kick save on a Carlton
Mitchell slap shot from between the circles with 1:42 remaining in the first period.
Not to be outdone, Gasior evened the score at 2-2 with another unassisted goal that occurred with 57.8 seconds left in the period.
Gasior gave the Huskies their first lead of the game when, after receiving a pass from Steven Vaccaro, blasted a slap shot from just in front of the blue line into the back of the net at 7:52 of the second period.
But David Horsfield scored a power play goal with 1:02 left in the second period to tie the game up at 3-3.
Prout will start the third period with a power play. A Mt. Hope coach was given a two minute bench minor for yelling at the referee after the second period ended.
