Mt. Hope evens Division III ice hockey series in overtime
PROVIDENCE - Mt. Hope senior defenseman Kyle Gasior couldn't have picked a better game to have the performance of a lifetime - in Game Two of the best-of-three Cox Sports Frozen Finals Division III game.
With the Huskies season on the line after losing Game One to Prout, 5-3, Gasior was determined to extend his high school hockey career for one more night.
Mission accomplished.
Gasior scored a natural hat trick and assisted on another goal to help lead Mt. Hope to a series tying 6-5 victory over Prout at Schneider Arena.
Game Three will be played tonight at 7 o'clock at Schneider.
Craig Larisa scored the game-winning goal with 2:45 remaining in the sudden-death overtime.
Mt. Hope goalie Patrick Gaudreau stopped 34 shots against Prout's high-scoring offense, and Kevin Nerone scored twice for the Huskies.
Hunter Dudzik led Prout with two goals and an assist, and Taylor Polhemus and David Horsfield each had a goal and an assist, but their terrific efforts weren't enough.
