La Salle wins gymnastic title

You wouldn't think it could get any better for La Salle's Meghan Fogarty and Meghan Saltys than the back-to-back, one-two finishes the Lady Rams senior duo posted in the 2008 and 2009 R.I. Interscholastic League state gymnastics championships.

But Saltys and Fogarty found a way to put a special touch on their last high school competition as they led La Salle to the team title in the New England Interscholastic Gymnastics Championships last week at Norwich Free Academy.

Salty's, the 2008 individual champion and runner-up to Fogarty this season, won two individuals New England titles as she captured the crown in the floor exercises and the beam.

Fogarty, this year's state individual state champion and 2008 runner-up was the Lady Rams top overall scorer as she placed second to Ashley O'Connor of New Milford (CT) High in the race for the New England All-around championship with a 37.25 performance.

La Salle won the team title with a score of 144.52. Barnstable (MA) High was second with 141.95 and Andover (MA) High was third with 140.12.
