Barrington alum No. 1

Jamie Gresh, the former Barrington High and Penn State tennis star, finished 2008 as the No. 1 player in the nation in the USTA Men's Open Division, USTA New England announced today.

Gresh won the 2008 USTA National Gress Court Championship in Newport and two New England sectional tournaments. He was 18-0 in sanctioned New England matches.

Gresh was a four-year letter winner (1999-2002) and two-time captain at Penn State. He won three consecutive individual state championships at Barrington High and led the Eagles to team titles in 19996, 1997 and 1998.

He currently serves as assistant coach for the Brown University men's team.

And his freshman year I believe his only loss was to his brother in the state championships... Might be wrong but I am pretty sure thats how it played out.
