Sports parenting/youth sports expert Dan Doyle to speak in Newport in April
Dan Doyle, founder and executive director of the Institute for International Sport and author of The Encyclopedia of Sports Parenting, will deliver three addresses - two that are free and open to the public - April 7 in Newport.
In the first of his three sessions, sponsored by Vitaminwater/Glaceau, Doyle will speak to students at the St. Michael's Country Day School.
The Parents Association of St. Michael's Country Day School then invites all youth sports coaches to hear Doyle speak about new concepts from his soon-to-be published book - Master Coach Manual - from 5-6 p.m. at the International Tennis Hall of Fame (in the USTA Wing), located at 194 Bellevue Ave. in Newport.
"Since coaches have a profound effect on the viewpoints, actions and habits of their players, the objective of Mr. Doyle's presentation is to raise the standard of youth coaching and help coaches develop a coherent philosophy which can be imparted to their youth-athletes," the Parents Association says in its invitation.
Later that night, parents are invited to hear Doyle speak from 7-8 p.m. at St. Michael's Country Day School, located at 180 Rhode Island Ave., Newport. (Additional parking will be available at Easton's Beach with complimentary shuttle service to St. Michael's Country Day School.)
In this session, also open to the public, Doyle will give advice on how to support your child through their experiences in youth sports from youth leagues through college.
The youth coach and sports parenting sessions are free, but reservations are recommended as seating is limited. Those interested in attending should contact Bethany Di Napoli, President of the Parents Association, either via e-mail at bdn@smspa.org or by phone at (401) 849-5970, ext. 400.
