Hawks win in ot
WARWICK - If playoff competition is anything like the action in the final week of the regular season, it's going to be a great state boys basketball tournament.
Most of a standing room only crowd at Hendricken Wednesday night stood throughout the entire four-minute overtime period before finally seeing Hendricken pull-out a 77-74 ot victory over Cranston East in showdown between the top two teams in Division I-West.
A mid-court steal with about 20 seconds to play in regulation gave Cranston East a break that produced the game-tying field goal. Two BIlly Baron free throws with five seconds to play in overtime gave Hendricken a three-point lead and forced the Thunderbolt to take a desperation three-point shot at the buzzer that fell short.
