Bethany O'Dell enjoyed a record-breaking basketball career at Lincoln High School, guiding the Lions to their first two Division II state titles, surpassing the 2,000-point mark and twice earning tournament MVP and first-team All-State honors. And for the last three years, she's been doing the same thing at Holy Cross.
Last week, the 5-foot-8 junior guard earned Baden Patriot League Player of the Week honors for her performance in wins over Bryant University and Lafayette. With her 15-point effort against Bryant, O'Dell set a Holy Cross record for three-pointers made (182). She also netted 15 points, a team-high, in the Crusaders' conference season-opener against Lafayette.
A few days after being named Player of the Week, O'Dell - who is ranked eighth in the Patriot League in career three-pointers made (185) - contributed 11 points, five rebounds, two steals and two assists to Holy Cross' 57-41 victory over Army.
Despite battling ankle and Achilles tendon injuries this season, she is second on her team in points (11.4), rebounds (4.3), assists (2.1) and steals (1.6) per game and comes into this weekend needing just under 80 points to reach 1,000 for her career.
