Lincoln School Announces Inaugural Girl's Basketball Invitational

Lincoln, St. Andrew's, Tiverton, and Cumberland Varsity Girl's Teams to Compete

Providence, RI -- December 2, 2008 -- The first annual Lincoln School Invitational Basketball Tournament will be held on Saturday and Sunday December 20-21 at Lincoln's Boss-McLoughlin Gymnasium in Providence. The girl's Varsity basketball teams from Lincoln School, St. Andrews School, Tiverton High School and Cumberland High School will compete for the tournament championship.

"We are very excited to host the first ever Lincoln Basketball Invitational. We look forward to promoting the game of girl's basketball in Rhode Island and offering our fans the highest level of play," says Ronnie McFarland, Lincoln School's Athletic Director.

Each team will play two games in a semi-final and championship/consolation format. The tournament schedule is as follows:

Saturday, December 20, 2008
Game 1: 11 a.m. - Lincoln School vs. St. Andrew's School
Game 2: 1 p.m. - Tiverton High School vs. Cumberland High School

Sunday, December 21, 2008
Consolation Game - 11 a.m. - Runner-Up Game 1 vs. Runner-Up Game 2
Championship Game - 1 p.m. - Winner Game 1 vs. Winner Game 2

After the completion of the championship game, the Lincoln Invitational Cup will be awarded to the winning team as well as awards for the All-Tournament Team and Tournament MVP. "We have a great mix of teams competing from across Rhode Island - teams from the Rhode Island Interscholastic League (RIIL) and the Southeastern New England Independent Schools Athletic Association (SENE). It will be a very competitive tournament, loaded with talented players," says Lincoln School basketball coach Christina Batastini.

Admission is $3 per spectator at the door. All games will take place at Lincoln School's Boss McLoughlin Gymnasium located at 301 Butler Ave in Providence. For additional information, please contact the Tournament Director, Lincoln School Athletic Director Ronnie McFarland, 401.331.9696 ext. 3138.
