La Salle tops Classical, captures second straight DI girls volleyball title

Armed with the same winning chemistry that earned the program its first Division I title last fall, the La Salle girls volleyball team rolled to another state crown last night, sweeping Classical in the Rhode Island Interscholastic League Division I Championship, before a crowd of several hundred at URI's Keaney Gym.

Defeating the Purple, 25-16, 25-21, 25-13, the Rams extended their winning streak to 42-0.

"It's overwhelming," said senior tri-captain Breanna Boyer, who was presented with the Alice Sullivan Memorial Award as the tournament MVP. "We've had so much success in high school. Teams usually don't even end up getting in the playoffs, and we've been in the championship match the last two years. So it's amazing. We all get along great. We have more fun than I've ever had on a sports team. It's more fun than it is serious. But when it comes down to it, we get serious when we have to and we have each other's backs all the time."
