Rhode Island boasts four gold medalists at N.E. Track Championships

Local results from the New England Track Championships, courtesy of former Journal sports writer Bob Leddy:

Rhode Island had three individual champions and a medal-winning relay Saturday at the New England Track Championships at Fitchburg State College, Fitchburg, Mass.

Hope High’s Kevin Morgan won the 100 meters in a time of 10.90 seconds; teammate Matt Washington took the 200 in 21.56. Narragansett’s Andrew Staples was the New England long jump champ with his distance of 23 feet, 2 inches (7.06 meters). In the boys’ 4x100 relay, the Blue Wave foursome of Benjamin Tamba, Revelino DaVeiga, Washington and Morgan clocked a winning 42.42.
