Tiverton's Conway wins state golf title

CRANSTON - Tiverton's Ben Conway overcame a two-stroke deficit over the final two holes as he captured the individual title in the R.I. Interscholastic League golf championships today with a even-par 71 in the second round of the 36-hole tournament at the Cranston Country Club.

Avengers' Ahrens signs letter of intent with Franklin Pierce

Earlier this month, Tori Ahrens, a three-time All-State basketball player at East Greenwich, signed a national letter of intent with Franklin Pierce College in N.H., where the 6-foot center has received a full athletic scholarship.

Evasick leads East Greenwich boys track to strong second-place finish at Class D Championships

East Greenwich boys track coach Paul Evasick provides this report of his team's strong showing at the Class D Championships behind junior captain Wes Evasick's triple win:

Hendricken halftime memorial service rescheduled

WARWICK -- A memorial service scheduled for tonight during half-time at a lacrosse match at Bishop Hendricken High School for Marine Lance Cpl. Eric Valdepenas has been postponed due to weather.

Valdepenas, 21, a 2003 graduate of Hendricken from Seekonk, Mass., died in Iraq last September. He was co-captain of the Hawks’ lacrosse team and an all-state lacrosse player.

The outdoor track class meets schedule for this weekend has been changed. Here are the new dates and times:

Boys Class D and Girls Class A: Saturday, 2 p.m.
Boys Class A: Sunday, 1 p.m.
Boys Class C: Saturday, 3 p.m.
Girls Class B and C: Monday, 3:30 p.m.
A decision for Boys Class B will be made tomorrow morning; the event could be rescheduled to Monday at 3:30 p.m.
