East Providence altered the Division I playoff picture by defeating previously unbeaten La Salle, 12-8, in the rain and slop at Pierce Memorial Field today.
Both the Townies and the Rams finished the regular season with one loss, but East Providence will be the top seed in the playoffs by virtue of its head-to-head victory.
The semifinals will be played Tuesday night, with all four Super Bowls scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 2.
Today's scheduled game between Exeter/West Greenwich and Chariho has been moved to tomorrow night at 6. The game is at Chariho.

Though the weather doesn't seem to be nearly as bad as the forecasters predicted -- as I write this in Cranston, it's not raining and the sky, while cloudy, is actually pretty bright -- there's one early postponement to announce. The Exeter/West Greenwich-at-Chariho game has been postponed to Friday night at 6 p.m.

Tomorrow's Toll-Gate-Bishop Hendricken game has been postponed to Friday at 2 p.m., according to the Web site of the Rhode Island Interscholastic League.
The annual Woonsocket vs. Cumberland Thanksgiving Day game has been postponed to Friday at 7 p.m. due to the forecast for rain tomorrow, Clipper AD Frank Geiselman reports. The game will be played at Tucker Field.

Tomorrow's rainy weather forecast has claimed its first football casualty. The annual Pilgrim-Warwick Vets game, scheduled for 10 a.m. tomorrow, has been moved to 6 Friday night, Vets athletic director Ken Rix reports.
Don't despair if you can't make it to the East Providence-La Salle football game Thanksgiving morning at Pierce Field. Cox Sports Teleivision plans to air live coverage of the game, beginning with a pre-game show at 9:30 a.m., as well as a rebroadcast at 7 p.m.

Congratulations are in order for Keven O'Neil and Peter Dion, recipients of this year's Larry Gallogly Awards.
O'Neil, coach of the state champion North Kingstown girls cross country team, was selected by his peers as the Girls' Coach of the Year.
Dion, who helped resurrect the boys' cross country program at East Greenwich several years ago, was honored as the Boys' Coach of the Year.

Sid Griffin, the Class B champion and third-place finisher at the state cross country meet, added to an already extremely successful sophomore season by becoming the first Rhode Island boy at the New England Interscholastic Cross Country Championships.
After falling short of its goal of winning a record six-straight state championships last fall, the North Kingstown girls cross country team was definitely refocused this season.
The Skippers added a seventh title to their string of Class A Championships, won their sixth state crown in seven years, then capped it off with their third runner-up finish in the last six years at yesterday’s New England Championships.

The Hope Blue Wave are Division I boys soccer champions, after beating the Mt. Hope Huskies, 2-1, in dramatic fashion this afternoon.
Winston Smith scored the game-winner with less than a minute to play, kicking the ball past Mt. Hope goalie Patrick MacGovern, who lost his footing on the play, from the right post in the closing seconds.

With lots of rain in the forecast for the end of the weekend, the Rhode Island Interscholastic League has decided to reschedule three girls soccer finals from Sunday afternoon to Saturday. Tonight's Division I final between La Salle and Scituate will take place as scheduled, as will the three boys soccer finals scheduled for tomorrow.
Here is the new girls soccer schedule for Saturday. All games are at Pierce Stadium in East Providence
The region's top cross country runners, including Rhode Island's best, will be heading to Glocester tomorrow morning for the New England High School Cross Country Championships, which will be held at Ponaganset High School's Covered Bridge Trail.
The boys' race is set to go off at 11:30 a.m., followed by the girls' race at 12:30 p.m.

Mt. Hope has upset six-time defending state champion La Salle and will move to the Division I finals on Saturday against Hope.
The Huskies got two goals and an assist from Michael Petriarca. They led 1-0 at halftime, took a 2-0 lead in the second half, and held on for the victory.
Earlier tonight, Hope beat Barrington, 3-2, on penalty kicks.
Mt. Hope and Hope will go at it at 2 p.m. Saturday from Rhode Island College.
The Blue Wave of Hope High School just defeated Barrington on penalty kicks in a marathon boys soccer semifinal game at Hendricken High School.
It took 13 penalty kicks after two scoreless, 10-minute overtimes for Hope to finally ice the game. With the score tied at 2-2, Blue Wave goalie Juan Velez made a diving, two-handed save on a shot by the Eagles' Ian McGarty. Joao Moreno then scored on the 13th kick to secure the victory.
The expanded Division II playoffs begin this weekend with four quarterfinal games. On Friday, it will be Westerly (3-4) visiting Shea (7-0) at 6 p.m., and South Kingstown (5-2) visiting Warwick Vets (6-1) at 7.
On Saturday, Chariho (6-1) hosts Toll Gate (4-3), while Burrillville (5-2) visits Cranston East (6-1). Both games begin at 6.
In Division I, the fourth and final playoff seed may be on the line when North Kingstown (4-3)
The Providence Journal is covering tonight's Division I boys soccer semifinals at Bishop Hendricken High School, and we'll post a summary on projo.com immediately after the games end.
The first semifinal, at 5 p.m., pits Hope (12-4-4) against Barrington (9-8-3). In the second game, scheduled for a 7 p.m. start, it will be La Salle (14-4-1) against Mt. Hope (9-9-2).

Six boys soccer playoff games and two girls soccer playoff games have been postponed tonight due to weather.
All of the postponed games will be made up tomorrow. The schedule:
Division I boys semifinals at Hendricken: Barrington vs. Hope, 5 p.m.; Mt. Hope vs. La Salle, 7 p.m.
Division II boys semifinals at Cranston Stadium: Pilgrim vs. Central, 5 p.m.; Cranston East vs. Tiverton, 7 p.m.m

The Tiverton Tigers jumped out to a 3-0 halftime lead and cruised from there for a 4-1 victory over Johnston in the Division III girls soccer semifinals.
Tiverton got goals from four different players. The Tigers will meet the winner of tonight's Lincoln-Classical matchup in the state finals, Sunday at 12:30 in East Providence.
Both of tonight's games in Division III are at La Salle Academy.
Behind two hat-trick performances, Scituate's girls soccer team defeated North Kingstown tonight, 6-2, and advances to play La Salle in the Division I finals.
Scituate got three goals each from Ashley Choiniere and Emily Miller. Andrea Wilson scored both North Kingstown goals.
Earlier tonight, La Salle defeated Mt. Hope, 2-0.
The final is 7 p.m. Friday at Rhode Island College.

Freshman forward Daria Capaldi scored both goals as the La Salle Rams defeated Mt. Hope, 2-0, in tonight's Division I girls soccer semifinal.
After a scoreless first half, Capaldi scored off a corner kick from Alyssa Peckham in the 45th minute. She quickly added an unassisted goal in the 47th minute.

After finishing second to teammate Jeanne Mack at last week's Class A meet, sophomore Jean Christensen reversed the roles, taking first at today's Rhode Island Interscholastic League Girls Cross Country State Championship with a time of 18:44.45.

The Division I battle at La Salle Academy between the Rams and the Hendricken Hawks is obviously the highlight of this weekend's football schedule.

Tiverton defeated Lincoln, 1-0, on a goal by Liz DeMello at 12:07 of the second period. Earlier tonight, Barrington eliminated North Kingstown, 1-0, in triple overtime.

The undefeated Barrington Eagles field hockey team kept their perfect season alive tonight with a 1-0, triple-overtime win over North Kingstown.
The Eagles got the game-winning goal at 6:21 of the third overtime from Julie Ruggieri. The two teams played 60 minutes of regulation, plus two 10-minute overtimes without scoring, before Ruggieri scored in the 87th minute of play.
